Holden Commodore (VN)

The Holden Commodore (VN) is a mid-size car produced by Holden in Australia from 1988 to 1991. It was the first model of the second-generation Commodore, replacing the VL series. Key features included a redesigned, more modern exterior influenced by the Opel Omega A, and the introduction of independent rear suspension (IRS) on higher-spec models.

The VN Commodore was available in a range of body styles, including sedan, wagon, and utility (ute). Engine options included a 2.0-litre four-cylinder (unavailable after 1990), a 3.8-litre Buick V6, and a 5.0-litre Holden V8. Transmissions were either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual.

Significant variants included the Executive, Berlina, Calais, and SS. The SS model featured performance enhancements and a distinctive appearance package. The VN Commodore was a commercially successful model for Holden, solidifying its position in the Australian automotive market. It was succeeded by the Holden Commodore (VP) in 1991. The VN introduced significant improvements in ride, handling, and styling compared to its predecessor, addressing some of the criticisms leveled at the VL series.
