Thomas Gibson (Canadian politician)
Thomas Gibson (1825 – February 23, 1905) was a Canadian politician. He served as a Liberal member of the House of Commons of Canada representing Huron South from 1874 to 1904.
Born in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland, Gibson immigrated to Canada in 1847 and settled in Huron County, Ontario. He was a farmer and a prominent figure in local agricultural societies.
In Parliament, Gibson was known for his advocacy of agricultural interests and his consistent support of the Liberal Party's policies. He was re-elected multiple times, demonstrating his popularity within his riding. His tenure saw significant developments in Canadian agriculture, including the establishment of agricultural colleges and improved farming techniques. He was a strong proponent of policies aimed at benefiting farmers and rural communities.
He died at his home in Hay Township, Ontario, at the age of 79, having retired from politics the previous year. His lengthy service in the House of Commons solidified his place in the history of Huron County and Canadian politics.
