Jack Russell (Cork hurler)

Jack Russell (born circa 1920s/1930s, died 2015) was an Irish hurler who played for the Cork senior team. He is best known for his performances as a goalkeeper during Cork's dominant era in the 1940s.

Russell won four All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championships with Cork (1941, 1942, 1943, 1944), forming a key part of the team that completed a four-in-a-row. He also won numerous Munster Senior Hurling Championships and National Hurling Leagues.

Known for his bravery, agility, and excellent reflexes, Russell is regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers in the history of hurling. He was often praised for his shot-stopping abilities and his command of the square. His contribution to Cork hurling during the 1940s cemented his place as a legend in the sport.
