HMS Swan (1767)
HMS Swan was a Swan-class ship sloop of the Royal Navy, launched in 1767. She was designed by Sir John Williams and built at Sheerness Dockyard. Vessels of the Swan class were notable for their elegant lines and sailing qualities, though they were not heavily armed.
Swan served primarily in North American waters during the lead-up to and throughout the American Revolutionary War. She was actively involved in suppressing smuggling and enforcing British authority. Her duties included patrolling the coastline, intercepting suspect vessels, and providing support to land-based operations.
In 1775, Swan participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill, providing artillery support to the British forces ashore. She was also involved in other engagements and skirmishes along the American coast.
Following the American Revolutionary War, Swan continued in service, primarily on patrol duties. She underwent refitting and repairs as needed.
The ship was eventually sold out of the Royal Navy in 1798. Her subsequent fate is not well documented.
