HMS Salisbury (F32)
HMS Salisbury (F32) was a Salisbury-class or Type 61 aircraft direction frigate of the Royal Navy. Built by Harland and Wolff, she was commissioned in 1957 and decommissioned in 1985.
Salisbury was primarily designed for air defense and radar picket duties, operating in the Western Approaches and North Atlantic to provide early warning against Soviet aircraft and submarines. She was equipped with advanced radar and communications equipment for her time, enabling her to track and identify potentially hostile targets.
Throughout her service, Salisbury participated in numerous exercises and patrols. She also served as a trials platform for new radar and communications technologies. Notably, she was involved in monitoring Soviet naval activity during the Cold War.
Following her decommissioning, Salisbury was used as a target ship and eventually sunk in 1988.
