Gabba (band)

Gabba was a UK-based novelty act and tribute band formed in 1994. The band's unique selling point was its fusion of ABBA's pop melodies with the hardcore techno genre also known as gabber. Their performances were characterized by high-energy tempos, distorted sounds, and exaggerated stage personas, contrasting the polished image of the original ABBA.

Gabba released several singles and albums, including "Gabba Mania," adapting ABBA hits like "Dancing Queen" and "Mamma Mia" into gabber tracks. They gained popularity within the UK rave and alternative music scenes, and performed at various festivals and clubs. The group's appeal lay in its humorous and irreverent approach to both ABBA's music and the hardcore techno scene, creating a deliberately jarring and entertaining experience for audiences. The band members adopted stage names and costumes that parodied both ABBA's members and rave culture aesthetics. Gabba's output ultimately ended in the early 2000s.
