Belgrade City Administration (1929–1941)

The Belgrade City Administration (1929–1941) refers to the administrative body governing the city of Belgrade, then the capital of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, during the period between the establishment of the January 6th Dictatorship in 1929 and the Axis invasion and occupation of Yugoslavia in 1941. This period saw significant changes in the organization and function of the city's government, largely due to the centralized policies implemented by King Alexander I and later, under the regency following his assassination.

The primary function of the Belgrade City Administration was to oversee the daily operations of the city, including public services such as sanitation, transportation, infrastructure maintenance, and public safety. It was also responsible for implementing national laws and policies at the local level.

The structure of the administration typically included a mayor (appointed by the central government), city councilors, and various departments responsible for specific areas of governance. The degree of autonomy the city administration possessed fluctuated during this time, often subject to the political priorities of the national government in Belgrade. The administration also played a crucial role in managing the rapid population growth of Belgrade during this period, as the city became an increasingly important industrial and commercial center. The period ended with the invasion of Yugoslavia in April 1941, after which the city administration was replaced by a German military administration.
