Stolberg (Harz)

Stolberg (Harz) is a town in the Mansfeld-Südharz district, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Historically a mining town, Stolberg lies nestled in the South Harz mountains and is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, particularly its half-timbered houses. It was the ancestral seat of the House of Stolberg, a prominent German noble family.

The town's history dates back to the 10th century, with significant development occurring throughout the Middle Ages due to silver and copper mining activities. The Stolberg Castle, overlooking the town, served as the residence of the Counts of Stolberg for centuries.

Following German reunification, Stolberg underwent extensive restoration and preservation efforts, transforming it into a popular tourist destination. The town boasts numerous historical buildings, including the Stolberg Castle, the marketplace with its town hall, and several churches.
