Liao Hua

Liao Hua (廖化), courtesy name Yuanjian (元儉), was a military general who lived during the late Eastern Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period of China. He initially served under the Yellow Turban rebels and later the Han government. He is best known for his long service to the state of Shu Han under Liu Bei, Liu Shan, and Jiang Wei.

Liao Hua first served as a subordinate under the Yellow Turban rebel Guan Hai. After Guan Hai's defeat, Liao Hua became a mountain bandit. Later, he protected Liu Bei's family when they were separated. He eventually joined Liu Bei after Liu Bei occupied Jing Province (present-day Hubei and Hunan).

Throughout his career in Shu Han, Liao Hua held various military positions and participated in several campaigns. He was known for his bravery and loyalty. He served under prominent Shu Han generals such as Guan Yu, Zhuge Liang, and Jiang Wei. He notably rescued Guan Yu's family during Guan Yu's perilous journey to rejoin Liu Bei.

Even in his old age, Liao Hua remained a capable and respected general. He is often remembered for the saying "Shu has no more generals," highlighting the decline in Shu Han's military strength in the later years of the Three Kingdoms period. He continued to serve Shu Han until its fall to the Cao Wei state.

Liao Hua died not long after the surrender of Liu Shan and the fall of Shu Han. He represents unwavering loyalty and dedication to a cause, even in the face of inevitable defeat. His long and eventful life has made him a memorable figure in Chinese history.
