Aardvark (2017 film)
Aardvark is a 2017 American independent drama film directed by Brian Shoaf. The film stars Zachary Quinto, Jenny Slate, Sheila Vand, and Jon Hamm. It tells the story of Emily Milburton (Slate), a mental health therapist in New York City, and her relationship with Josh Norman (Quinto), one of her patients who suffers from delusions. Josh believes he is being followed and protected by a mysterious figure, a figment of his imagination.
Emily's professional and personal life become increasingly intertwined as she develops a complex and possibly inappropriate connection with Josh. The film explores themes of mental illness, loneliness, connection, and the blurry lines between professional and personal relationships. Emily also navigates her own personal struggles, including a complicated relationship with her brother, Craig (Hamm), and his girlfriend, Hannah (Vand).
The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2017 and received mixed reviews. Critics generally praised the performances of Slate and Quinto but found the narrative somewhat unfocused and underdeveloped.
