Ludwig Petry
Ludwig Petry (1883-1951) was a German historian specializing in the history of East Central Europe, particularly the history of the Teutonic Order and Prussia.
Petry is notable for his work on the Deutscher Ordensstaat Preußen im 15./16. Jahrhundert: Politische Verfassung, Ständische Struktur und Kirchenverhältnisse, a comprehensive study of the Teutonic Order state in Prussia during the 15th and 16th centuries. His research focused on the political constitution, social structure, and church relations of the region during this critical period.
Petry held professorships at several German universities, including the University of Königsberg (now Kaliningrad) and the University of Göttingen. His work contributed significantly to the understanding of the historical development of Prussia and its place in the broader context of East Central European history. He emphasized the importance of archival research and careful source analysis in his historical investigations. He died in 1951 in Göttingen.
