Sha'alvim
Sha'alvim is a moshav shitufi (a type of cooperative agricultural community) located in central Israel, in the Ayalon Valley, near Latrun. It falls under the jurisdiction of Gezer Regional Council.
Founded in 1951 by members of the Poalei Agudat Yisrael religious Zionist movement, Sha'alvim is known for its adherence to Jewish religious law (Halakha). The moshav is particularly associated with the Sha'alvim Yeshiva, a prominent religious high school and teacher training institution that was established concurrently with the moshav. The Yeshiva is a major influence on the character and development of the community.
The name "Sha'alvim" is taken from the biblical town of Shaalabbin, mentioned in the Book of Judges (1:35), and located in the area. The moshav's economy is primarily based on agriculture, including field crops, orchards, and dairy farming. Education also plays a significant role, with the Yeshiva and other educational institutions providing employment opportunities.
Sha'alvim has played a role in Israeli politics, particularly within the religious Zionist sector. Its residents often hold prominent positions in religious and educational institutions throughout the country.
