Bikram Singh (general)

Bikram Singh (born 1952) is a retired Indian Army General who served as the 24th Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army. He assumed office on 31 May 2012 and retired on 31 July 2014. Prior to his appointment as COAS, he served as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Eastern Command.

Singh is an alumnus of the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He has held various command and staff appointments throughout his career, including command of a mountain brigade in a high altitude area and a division in counter-insurgency operations. He also served with the United Nations as part of the United Nations Mission in Mozambique (ONUMOZ).

General Singh has been decorated with several awards, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM), and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) for his distinguished service. His tenure as COAS focused on modernization of the Indian Army and enhancing its operational capabilities.
