Newport (North Yorkshire) railway station

Newport railway station was a minor station located in Newport, a village in the district of Ryedale, North Yorkshire, England. It served the village and surrounding rural area on the branch line between Thirsk and Malton.

The station opened in 1853 as part of the Thirsk and Malton Railway. It was a small, rural station, typically consisting of a single platform, basic station buildings and a siding for goods traffic. The station primarily handled agricultural produce and passenger traffic connecting the village with the larger towns of Thirsk and Malton.

Passenger services were withdrawn from the station in 1930. Goods traffic continued for a further period, but the station was eventually closed completely in 1964 as part of the Beeching cuts.

Today, no trace of the station remains, the site having been returned to agricultural land. The trackbed through the village has also largely been lost. Its history is preserved in local archives and historical accounts of the Thirsk and Malton Railway.
