Donald Reid (politician, born 1850)

Donald Reid (1850 – 1920) was a New Zealand politician.

Born in Dunedin, New Zealand, in 1850, Donald Reid was the son of Donald Reid, Sr., a prominent Otago businessman and politician. He was educated at Otago Boys' High School and later at the University of Edinburgh.

Reid entered politics and served as a Member of Parliament for Taieri from 1887 to 1890 and again from 1893 to 1896. He was known for his advocacy for agricultural interests and his commitment to land reform in Otago.

He held the position of Minister of Lands and Minister of Agriculture in the Stout-Vogel Ministry from 1887 to 1889. During his tenure, he focused on promoting closer settlement and improving agricultural practices.

Following his parliamentary career, Reid continued to be involved in public life and served on various local bodies. He died in Dunedin in 1920. He is remembered for his contributions to the development of Otago and his dedication to the agricultural sector.
