Fish Point (Houtman Abrolhos)

Fish Point is a small, low-lying island located within the Wallabi Group, one of the three island groups that make up the Houtman Abrolhos archipelago off the coast of Western Australia. It lies approximately 60 kilometers west of Geraldton.

Fish Point, like much of the Wallabi Group, is a significant seabird nesting site. Key species that can be found nesting on or near Fish Point include Wedge-tailed Shearwaters, Lesser Noddies, and various tern species. The island also supports a fragile terrestrial ecosystem adapted to the arid and exposed conditions.

The waters surrounding Fish Point are part of the Houtman Abrolhos Islands National Park and Marine Park. These waters are known for their rich biodiversity, supporting vibrant coral reefs, diverse fish populations, and numerous invertebrate species. Recreational fishing and diving are popular activities in the area, but are subject to regulations to protect the fragile marine environment.

Access to Fish Point is primarily by boat or air. Due to its ecological significance and protected status, landing may be restricted and subject to permits. Care must be taken to avoid disturbing nesting birds and damaging the fragile vegetation. The island is also of historical significance, representing a location within a system of islands utilized and impacted by European exploration and settlement.
