Joe Egan (musician)
Joe Egan (born 6 October 1946) is a Scottish singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as one half of the 1970s soft rock duo Stealers Wheel.
Egan was born in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He initially pursued music alongside his studies in architecture. He formed Stealers Wheel with Gerry Rafferty in 1972. The band achieved significant success with singles such as "Stuck in the Middle With You" and "Everyone's Agreed That Everything Will Turn Out Fine." While Rafferty handled lead vocals on "Stuck in the Middle With You", Egan took the lead on several other Stealers Wheel tracks and contributed significantly to the songwriting.
Following Stealers Wheel's breakup in 1975, Egan embarked on a solo career. He released several solo albums, including Out of Nowhere (1979), Map (1981), and Lost Highway (1983). His solo work often showcased his melodic songwriting and distinctive vocal style.
While he did not achieve the same level of commercial success as with Stealers Wheel, Egan continued to write and record music throughout his career. He has remained a respected figure in the Scottish music scene.
