Road House (1989 film)
Road House is a 1989 American action film directed by Rowdy Herrington. The film stars Patrick Swayze as James Dalton, a professional "cooler" (a specialized bouncer) hired to clean up a rowdy Missouri bar called the Double Deuce.
The plot revolves around Dalton's efforts to restore order and protect the town from Brad Wesley, a corrupt businessman who controls the area through extortion and violence. Dalton's methods often involve extreme force, leading to numerous fights and confrontations with Wesley's henchmen. He also develops a romantic relationship with Dr. Elizabeth "Doc" Clay, further escalating the conflict with Wesley, who is revealed to have a history with her.
The film features a blend of martial arts, bar fights, shootouts, and romantic melodrama. Ben Gazzara plays Brad Wesley, and Kelly Lynch portrays Dr. Clay. Sam Elliott appears as Wade Garrett, Dalton's mentor and friend.
Despite initially receiving mixed reviews from critics, Road House has gained a cult following over the years, particularly for its over-the-top action sequences and quotable dialogue. It has become a popular late-night cable television staple and is considered a classic of the action genre by many.
