Ion Arapu

Ion Arapu (born October 15, 1940, in Zubrești, Strășeni, Romania (now Moldova); died February 21, 1993, in Chișinău, Moldova) was a Moldovan writer, translator, and playwright. He is considered a significant figure in Moldovan literature, known for his prose, which often explored themes of rural life, identity, and the societal changes impacting Moldovan culture.

Arapu graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at Moldova State University. He worked for various literary publications and publishing houses, contributing significantly to the cultural landscape of Moldova during the Soviet era and the period leading up to independence.

His works include novels, short stories, and plays, some of which have been adapted for the stage. He is remembered for his realistic portrayals of Moldovan villagers and for his sensitivity to the nuances of their experiences.
