Connie Johnson (fundraiser)
Connie Johnson (1977 – 2017) was an Australian actress, television and radio presenter, and dedicated fundraiser. She is best known for her tireless work in raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research through the charity she co-founded with her brother, Samuel Johnson, titled Love Your Sister.
Johnson’s personal experiences with cancer, having battled bone cancer as a child and later breast cancer, fueled her commitment to the cause. Love Your Sister, established in 2012, employed unconventional and often humorous fundraising methods, capitalizing on Samuel Johnson's fame as an actor. They aimed to increase awareness about the importance of breast cancer screening and research, particularly for women under 40.
Love Your Sister achieved significant success under Connie Johnson's leadership, raising millions of dollars for research organizations such as the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. Her efforts were largely driven by a desire to provide better treatments and ultimately find a cure for cancer.
Following her diagnosis with terminal breast cancer, Johnson continued to advocate for cancer research and palliative care. She received widespread recognition for her bravery and dedication, becoming a prominent figure in the Australian cancer community. Connie Johnson's legacy continues through the ongoing work of Love Your Sister and the impact she made on cancer research and awareness in Australia.
