San Giovanni (Rome Metro)

San Giovanni is a station on Line A and Line C of the Rome Metro. It is located in the Appio Latino quarter, near the Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, hence the name. The station serves as an interchange between the two lines.

The Line A station opened in 1980 as part of the initial section of the line. The Line C station opened in 2018 after significant delays due to archaeological finds during construction. These discoveries are partially integrated into the station design, with displays and preserved artifacts visible to passengers. The station is accessible and features escalators and elevators. The area surrounding the station is a major commercial and residential hub, easily accessible by foot, bus, and tram. The station provides connectivity to several important locations in Rome, including the Lateran University and the Museo della Liberazione (Museum of the Liberation).
