HBO Now

HBO Now was a standalone streaming service offered by Home Box Office (HBO), a premium television network owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. Launched in April 2015, it allowed subscribers to access HBO's on-demand library of original series, movies, documentaries, and sports programming without requiring a traditional cable television subscription. HBO Now was accessible through various devices including computers, smartphones, tablets, streaming media players, and smart TVs.

The service was primarily targeted at cord-cutters – individuals who preferred to consume entertainment through internet streaming rather than traditional cable. HBO Now provided a direct-to-consumer (DTC) offering, enabling HBO to reach a broader audience.

In May 2020, HBO Now was discontinued and rebranded as HBO Max, which included all of the content from HBO Now plus additional content from other WarnerMedia brands. Existing HBO Now subscribers were generally transitioned to HBO Max. While HBO Now no longer exists as a separate entity, its role was significant in paving the way for HBO Max and demonstrating the viability of streaming services from premium content providers.
