Sonic Jam
Sonic Jam is a compilation video game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Sega Saturn in 1997. It features fully emulated versions of the original four mainline Sonic the Hedgehog games released on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Sonic & Knuckles.
Beyond simple emulation, Sonic Jam also introduced several new features. These include the "Sonic World," a 3D exploration area where players control Sonic and interact with environments inspired by the Genesis-era games. Sonic World served as a hub to access the emulated games and other bonus content.
The game also offered players the option to play the original games in their "Original" mode, providing the experience identical to the Genesis versions, or in "Arranged" mode, which offered options such as adjusted difficulty, the ability to use the Spin Dash move in Sonic the Hedgehog, and other tweaks to gameplay. It also allowed players to select from different screen resolutions.
Sonic Jam is considered a notable release in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, both for its preservation of the classic games and for its innovative additions, particularly the 3D Sonic World. It was generally well-received by critics for its quality emulation and added features.
