129th (Wentworth) Battalion, CEF
The 129th (Wentworth) Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF), was an infantry battalion raised in Wentworth County, Ontario, Canada, during the First World War. Authorized on December 22, 1915, the battalion was recruited primarily from the county, with headquarters in Hamilton.
The 129th Battalion embarked for Great Britain on August 21, 1916, aboard the Empress of Britain. Upon arrival, it was initially stationed in England. On January 25, 1917, its personnel were absorbed into the 12th Reserve Battalion for reinforcement purposes, effectively ceasing its independent operational existence. The battalion never served as a unit in France or Belgium.
The official disbandment of the 129th (Wentworth) Battalion, CEF, occurred on July 17, 1917, as per General Order 82a.
The 129th Battalion is perpetuated by The Royal Hamilton Light Infantry (Wentworth Regiment).
Its mobilization headquarters were at Hamilton, Ontario.
