Gene Green (baseball)

Eugene "Gene" Green (born May 9, 1932, died October 19, 2017) was a professional baseball player. He was a right-handed pitcher who played for one season in Major League Baseball (MLB) with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1957.

Green attended the University of Kentucky, where he also played baseball. He signed with the Cardinals in 1954 and spent several years in their minor league system before getting his opportunity at the major league level.

In his single MLB season, Green appeared in 11 games, all in relief. He pitched a total of 17 innings, posting a 1-0 record with an earned run average (ERA) of 2.12. He allowed 12 hits, struck out 11 batters, and walked 9.

Following his brief stint in the majors, Green continued to pitch in the minor leagues for a few more seasons before retiring from professional baseball.
