Yu-Hwa Lo

Yu-Hwa Lo is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). His research focuses primarily on the areas of nanophotonics, semiconductor optoelectronics, and bio-photonics.

Lo received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University. He has made significant contributions to the development of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), photonic integrated circuits, and nano-scale optical devices. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences.

Professor Lo is a Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and the Optical Society of America (OSA), recognizing his distinguished achievements and contributions to the field of photonics. He has also received several other awards and honors throughout his career for his research and teaching. He actively participates in professional organizations and serves on editorial boards of scientific journals. His current research interests include exploring novel photonic materials and devices for applications in optical communications, sensing, and biomedical imaging.
