Újpest

Újpest is the IV district of Budapest, Hungary. Located on the left bank of the Danube river, it is one of the most populous districts of the city.

History: Újpest, meaning "New Pest," was founded in 1838 as a separate town north of Pest. It rapidly industrialized during the 19th century, becoming a major center for factories and workers' housing. Újpest was officially annexed to Budapest in 1950 as its IV district.

Geography: Újpest is characterized by its flat terrain and the Danube River forming its eastern border. It is located north of the city center and borders the III (Óbuda-Békásmegyer) and XV (Rákospalota-Pestújhely-Újpalota) districts.
