Second VA-85 (U.S. Navy)

VA-85, designated "Second VA-85" to differentiate it from a previous squadron of the same designation, was an attack squadron of the United States Navy. It was established on 1 April 1967, and disestablished on 30 September 1991. The squadron’s nickname was the "Black Falcons."

Initially equipped with the A-7A Corsair II, VA-85 transitioned to the A-7E variant in 1971. Throughout its operational history, the squadron participated in numerous deployments aboard various aircraft carriers, primarily in the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, and Indian Ocean. These deployments often involved support for U.S. Sixth Fleet operations in the Mediterranean and contingency operations elsewhere.

The squadron's primary mission was to deliver ordnance against enemy targets in support of naval and joint operations. VA-85 participated in exercises and real-world events, demonstrating its readiness and proficiency in strike warfare.

VA-85 earned several awards and recognitions throughout its service, reflecting its operational effectiveness and contributions to naval aviation. Upon disestablishment in 1991, its personnel and equipment were redistributed within the Navy.
