Chris Townsend (cricketer)
Chris Townsend (born August 10, 1974, in Durban, South Africa) is a former Zimbabwean cricketer who played primarily as a right-arm medium-pace bowler and lower-order batsman.
Townsend represented Zimbabwe in both Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket. He made his international debut in an ODI against England in 1996. His Test debut came later that year against New Zealand.
While not a consistent member of the Zimbabwean side, Townsend featured sporadically throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s. He was known for his economical bowling and ability to pick up crucial wickets, though his batting contributions were generally limited.
His international career was affected by the political turmoil and player disputes that plagued Zimbabwean cricket during the early 2000s. He ultimately retired from international cricket, having made a modest but notable contribution to the Zimbabwean national team during a challenging period. Following his playing career, Townsend has reportedly been involved in coaching and other cricketing endeavors.
