March 82S

The March 82S was a Group C sports prototype racing car built by March Engineering in 1982. It was designed to compete in the World Sportscar Championship, the IMSA GT Championship, and other sports car racing series.

The chassis was a lightweight aluminum monocoque, and power came from a variety of engines depending on the team and the specific race regulations. Engine options included the Chevrolet small-block V8, the Porsche Type-935 flat-six turbo, and the BMW M12/7 four-cylinder turbo.

The 82S achieved moderate success in its racing career. It wasn't a dominant force, but it secured podium finishes and wins in some races. Several privateer teams campaigned the car, contributing to its appearances in various international events. Key drivers who piloted the March 82S included drivers such as Bobby Rahal and John Fitzpatrick, amongst others depending on the team and series.

The car's design reflected the aerodynamic principles of the early Group C era, characterized by its relatively simple bodywork compared to later, more sophisticated Group C designs. The 82S represented March's entry into this new era of sports car racing, following their previous successes in Formula One and other categories.
