In Deep (TV series)
In Deep is a British television crime drama series created by Peter Jukes, starring Nick Berry and Stephen Tompkinson. It aired on BBC One from 2001 to 2003, running for three series.
The series focused on undercover detectives Liam Ketman (Berry) and Garth O'Hanlon (Tompkinson), who were partners working for a specialized unit of the Metropolitan Police. Each episode typically involved them infiltrating dangerous criminal organizations, often adopting entirely new identities and living double lives for extended periods.
In Deep was known for its gritty realism and exploration of the psychological toll of undercover work on its protagonists. The storylines often depicted the complex moral compromises Ketman and O'Hanlon faced while maintaining their covers and gathering evidence, blurring the lines between right and wrong. The series also explored the impact of their jobs on their personal lives and relationships.
Nick Berry left the series after the second series, citing a desire to spend more time with his family. He was replaced by Robson Green, who played undercover detective Sean O'Neil in the third and final series. While the core premise remained the same, the third series focused more on the personal relationship between O'Hanlon and O'Neil.
