Dublin County West (Dáil constituency)
Dublin County West was a Dáil constituency in Ireland from 1937 to 1948. It elected three Teachtaí Dála (TDs) to Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (parliament).
History and Boundaries:
The constituency was created under the Electoral (Revision of Constituencies) Act 1935, which replaced the former Dublin County constituency with Dublin County West and Dublin County East. It comprised the western part of County Dublin.
The Electoral (Amendment) Act 1947 abolished Dublin County West and Dublin County East, re-establishing a single Dublin County constituency for the 1948 general election.
Elections:
Dublin County West held four general elections: 1937, 1938, 1943, and 1944.
Notable TDs:
Some of the TDs who represented Dublin County West included:
- Patrick Belton (various parties)
- Thomas F. O'Higgins (Cumann na nGaedheal/Fine Gael)
- James J. Walsh (Fianna Fáil)
Succession:
Following its abolition in 1948, the area formerly within Dublin County West was incorporated into the re-established Dublin County constituency. The multi-seat system continued in Dublin County, but the composition of the TDs representing the area changed with the new constituency boundaries and electoral dynamics.
