Independent Socialist Party (Netherlands)

The Independent Socialist Party (Dutch: Onafhankelijke Socialistische Partij, OSP) was a Dutch socialist political party active between 1932 and 1935. It emerged from a split within the Social Democratic Workers' Party (SDAP) following disagreements over unemployment policies and the perceived reformism of the SDAP leadership.

Key figures in the OSP included Piet Schmidt and Jacques de Kadt. The party advocated for a more radical and revolutionary approach to socialism than the SDAP, emphasizing direct action and opposing collaboration with bourgeois parties. They were critical of the SDAP's acceptance of austerity measures in response to the Great Depression.

The OSP was relatively small, never gaining significant electoral support. However, it played a role in the broader Dutch socialist movement, providing a platform for more left-wing and anti-parliamentary viewpoints.

In 1935, the OSP merged with the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), led by Henk Sneevliet, to form the Revolutionary Socialist Workers' Party (RSAP). This merger aimed to create a stronger and more unified revolutionary socialist force in the Netherlands.
