Scarce (band)

Scarce was an American alternative rock band formed in Providence, Rhode Island in the early 1990s. The band was fronted by singer and guitarist Chickie Viola. Other core members included Jud Ehrbar on guitar, Joyce Raskin on bass, and Andrew Mayer on drums (who replaced original drummer Eric Broers).

Scarce released two studio albums: Deadsexy (1995) on A&M Records and An Apology (1996) on the Japanese label Zero Hour. Deadsexy achieved moderate success, fueled by the single "All Dressed Up," which received airplay on MTV and alternative radio.

Known for their intensely emotional live performances and Viola's raw and vulnerable vocals, Scarce built a dedicated following within the alternative music scene. Their music blended elements of grunge, punk, and post-punk, creating a distinctive and powerful sound. Lyrically, the band explored themes of personal struggle, relationships, and societal issues.

Despite critical acclaim and a strong live presence, Scarce disbanded in the late 1990s. Members have since pursued other musical projects. While their time as a band was relatively short, Scarce is remembered for their contribution to the alternative rock landscape of the 1990s and the impact of their emotionally charged music.
