Sea Org

The Sea Org (short for Sea Organization) is a paramilitary-style organization within the Church of Scientology. It is described by the Church as a religious order and is responsible for the international management of the Church of Scientology and its affiliated entities.

Sea Org members sign billion-year contracts of service and commit to serving the Church for lifetimes, often working long hours and living communally. The organization originated in 1967, operating from ships, including the Apollo, L. Ron Hubbard's flagship, hence the name "Sea Org."

The Sea Org's responsibilities include running Scientology's Advanced Organizations, managing the publication and dissemination of Scientology materials, and overseeing various Church-related projects. Members often hold leadership positions within the Church's various branches and missions globally.

The organization has been the subject of controversy and scrutiny, with critics raising concerns about its labor practices, living conditions, and the pressures placed on its members. Supporters of the Sea Org maintain that it is a dedicated group committed to spreading Scientology's teachings and improving society.
