Alliance for Change (Guyana)

The Alliance for Change (AFC) is a political party in Guyana. It was formed in 2005 as a merger of disaffected members from the two major political parties, the People's Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) and the People's National Congress Reform (PNCR), aiming to offer a "third force" alternative to the historically polarized political landscape dominated by these two groups.

The AFC sought to appeal to a broader cross-section of Guyanese society by emphasizing national unity, good governance, and economic development. It advocated for constitutional reform, transparency in government, and a more equitable distribution of resources.

In the 2011 general election, the AFC gained significant ground, winning 7 out of 65 seats in the National Assembly and holding the balance of power, given that neither the PPP/C nor the PNCR-led coalition, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), achieved a majority.

In 2015, the AFC joined forces with APNU to form a coalition government, ending the PPP/C's 23-year rule. David Granger of the PNCR became President, and Moses Nagamootoo of the AFC became Prime Minister. This alliance contested the 2020 general election as a united front, but lost to the PPP/C. Since then, the AFC remains a significant opposition party in Guyana.

The AFC's platform generally includes promoting private sector growth, strengthening democratic institutions, and addressing issues of corruption and crime. Its support base is generally considered to be more diverse than the traditional support bases of the PPP/C and PNCR, drawing from various ethnic and social groups within Guyana.
