Jim Abbott (Canadian politician)

Jim Abbott (born December 16, 1942, in London, England) is a Canadian politician who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the riding of Kootenay—Columbia in British Columbia from 1993 to 2015. He represented the Reform Party of Canada from 1993 to 2000, the Canadian Alliance from 2000 to 2003, and the Conservative Party of Canada from 2003 to 2015.

Prior to his political career, Abbott worked as a small business owner in the tourism industry. He and his wife, Gail, operated a guest ranch near Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia.

During his time in Parliament, Abbott served on numerous committees, including the Standing Committee on Finance, the Standing Committee on Natural Resources, and the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development. He was known for his fiscally conservative views and his advocacy for small businesses and rural communities. He held the position of Critic for various portfolios, including National Revenue and Small Business and Tourism.

Abbott did not seek re-election in the 2015 federal election.
