Mariamne (daughter of Herod Agrippa)
Mariamne (c. 34/35 – late 60s/early 70s CE) was a Jewish princess of the Herodian dynasty. She was the daughter of Herod Agrippa I and Cypros. Her paternal grandparents were Aristobulus IV, son of Herod the Great, and Berenice, daughter of Costobarus and Salome I, who was Herod the Great's sister.
Mariamne's brothers were Herod Agrippa II and Drusus, and her sisters were Berenice and Drusilla.
She was initially betrothed to Julius Archelaus, son of Chelcias, but the betrothal was broken off before any marriage took place. Around 50 CE, she married Julius Archelaus' brother, Aristobulus of Chalcis. Aristobulus was the son of Herod of Chalcis and his first wife, Mariamne (daughter of Joseph, son of Herod the Great), making Aristobulus her first cousin once removed.
Mariamne and Aristobulus had a daughter, also named Berenice, who married a member of the aristocracy in Alexandria. Mariamne's husband, Aristobulus, was King of Lesser Armenia from 54/55 CE until his death, and likely ruled concurrently as King of Chalcis after his father, Herod of Chalcis, died. Mariamne therefore held the title of Queen.
