Liberty Bell (Denver)
The Liberty Bell in Denver is a full-sized, historically accurate replica of the original Liberty Bell located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is one of a series of replicas cast in 1950s by the Paccard Foundry in Annecy-le-Vieux, France, as part of a savings bond promotion campaign led by the Savings Bond Division of the U.S. Treasury Department.
The Denver Liberty Bell replica was presented to the state of Colorado and subsequently displayed in various locations throughout the city, including the Colorado State Capitol grounds for a period. The purpose of these replica bells was to promote patriotism and the purchase of U.S. Savings Bonds. Each bell was inscribed with a message encouraging citizens to save for their future and support their country.
The Denver Liberty Bell, like the other replicas, is made of bronze and includes a visible crack that mirrors the famous crack in the original Liberty Bell. While not the original, the Denver replica serves as a tangible symbol of American independence and the principles of liberty and freedom. Its location may change over time depending on decisions made by local or state authorities responsible for its upkeep and display. The replicas, including the one in Denver, continue to be a reminder of American history and civic responsibility.
