Jackson (crater)

Jackson is a prominent lunar impact crater located on the far side of the Moon. Situated within the northern hemisphere of the far side, its selenographic coordinates are 22.4° N, 162.7° W, and it has a diameter of 71 kilometers.

The crater is characterized by its relatively well-defined rim and terraced inner walls. The interior floor is uneven and complex, showing evidence of slumping and possible volcanic activity. It exhibits a modest central peak.

Jackson is located to the northeast of the larger crater Birkhoff and northwest of d'Alembert. The smaller crater Holetschek is found attached to the southwestern outer rim of Jackson.

Due to its location on the far side of the Moon, Jackson is never visible directly from Earth. It was named in honor of the Scottish physicist John Jackson.
