Jack Grimes (actor)
Jack Grimes (January 21, 1926 – March 10, 2009) was an American actor, primarily known for his extensive voice-over work and his roles in radio drama during the Golden Age of Radio.
Grimes began his career as a child actor, appearing in numerous radio programs such as Let's Pretend and The March of Time. He became a prominent figure in radio drama, known for his versatility and ability to portray a wide range of characters. He transitioned successfully into television, appearing in both live and filmed productions.
One of his most recognizable roles was as the voice of Charlie the Tuna in Starkist Tuna commercials from 1961 to 1989. His distinctive voice and comedic timing made Charlie a popular advertising icon.
In addition to his voice work, Grimes also worked as a stage actor, appearing in various theatrical productions. He also wrote and directed plays. He remained active in the entertainment industry throughout his life, continuing to lend his voice to commercials and other projects.
He was married to Rosemary Rice, also an actress prominent in radio, from 1951 until her death in 2005.
