58th Vaughan's Rifles (Frontier Force)
The 58th Vaughan's Rifles (Frontier Force) was a regiment of the British Indian Army. It was raised in 1846 by Captain John Luther Vaughan as Vaughan's Rifles, part of the Punjab Irregular Force (later the Frontier Force). The regiment participated in numerous campaigns on the North-West Frontier of India, including actions against tribesmen and in the Second Sikh War. They were involved in the Siege of Multan.
In 1903, as part of the Kitchener Reforms, the regiment was redesignated as the 58th Vaughan's Rifles (Frontier Force). They continued to serve on the frontier.
Following World War I, further army reforms led to the amalgamation of several regiments. In 1922, the 58th Vaughan's Rifles (Frontier Force) was merged with the 59th Scinde Rifles (Frontier Force), the 1st and 2nd Battalions, 60th Royal Rifles (Frontier Force) to form the 12th Frontier Force Regiment. The 58th Vaughan's Rifles became the 5th Battalion, 12th Frontier Force Regiment.
The Frontier Force Regiment was transferred to the Pakistan Army upon Partition in 1947.
