The Diary (J Dilla album)

The Diary is a posthumous studio album by American hip hop producer and rapper J Dilla, released on April 15, 2016, by Pay Jay Productions and Mass Appeal Records. While Dilla was known primarily as a producer, The Diary showcases his rapping skills, primarily featuring verses recorded prior to his death in 2006.

The album consists of vocal performances Dilla recorded between 2002 and 2006, intended for a shelved MCA Records album called Pay Jay. The project was never released during his lifetime, and the masters were thought to be lost. Following Dilla's death, Egon Alapatt of Now-Again Records located the tapes, and worked with Dilla's estate to complete the album.

The Diary features collaborations with several notable artists, including Snoop Dogg, Kokane, Frank n Dank, Nottz, Hi-Tek, Madlib, Pete Rock, and House Shoes. The production is handled by a diverse range of producers, including Madlib, Pete Rock, Karriem Riggins, House Shoes, and Dilla himself.
