Aphareus
Aphareus, in Greek mythology, was a Messenian prince, son of Perieres and Gorgophone (daughter of Perseus and Andromeda). He was the founder and king of Arene in Messenia.
Aphareus was married to Arene, daughter of Oebalus, and together they had two sons: Idas and Lynceus, who were known for their rivalry and participation in the Calydonian Boar Hunt and the Argonaut expedition. Some accounts also mention Pisus as his son.
Aphareus is generally portrayed as a just and wise ruler. He figures primarily in the stories of his sons, Idas and Lynceus, who were famous for their strength and their constant quarrels with the Dioscuri (Castor and Pollux). While Aphareus himself is not a central character in many myths, his lineage and the actions of his sons contribute to the tapestry of Greek heroic narratives. He is an important figure in understanding the genealogy and relationships of various heroes and their families.
