Adelphoi (1865)

Adelphoi is a term referring to a type of photographic print created in 1865 by David Woodbury and published by the American Stereoscopic Company. The adelphotype, as the process was more completely known, was a stereoscopic image created by a unique method involving a combination of photography and lithography. It was distinct from standard photographic prints of the period due to its enhanced tonal range and artistic qualities. The process aimed to achieve a richer, more visually appealing image than could be readily achieved through purely photographic means at the time. The prints were typically mounted on card stock, characteristic of stereoviews of the era.
