Vasuki (train)
Vasuki is the name given to a freight train operated by the South East Central Railway (SECR) zone of Indian Railways. It is notable for being one of the longest and heaviest freight trains operated in India.
Vasuki is formed by combining multiple rakes of goods wagons. The initial iteration of Vasuki combined five rakes. This allows for the transportation of significantly larger quantities of goods, primarily coal, in a single journey. The train's operational characteristics, such as its length and weight, require careful coordination and management of resources along the railway line. It’s named after the serpent Vasuki from Hindu mythology, known for its length and association with Lord Shiva. The operation of trains like Vasuki contributes to improved efficiency and capacity in freight transportation on the Indian Railways network.
