TVM (Malta)

TVM is the trading name of Public Broadcasting Services Limited (PBS), the public service broadcaster of Malta. Established in 1962 as the Malta Television Service Ltd., it began broadcasting on 29 September 1962. It was initially a subscription-based service. Over time, the broadcasting service transitioned to public ownership and became part of PBS.

TVM operates several television channels, most notably TVM and TVM2, broadcasting news, current affairs, entertainment, and cultural programs. As the national broadcaster, TVM has a mandate to provide impartial and balanced coverage of news and events, and to promote Maltese culture and language.

TVM plays a significant role in Maltese society, reflecting and shaping public opinion, and providing a platform for Maltese talent. The broadcaster is funded by a combination of government funding and commercial advertising. It is also involved in the production of local content, including dramas, documentaries, and children's programs.

TVM's programming is available terrestrially and through various digital platforms, including online streaming and catch-up services. It is an active member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and participates in various international broadcasting events, including the Eurovision Song Contest. The news division within TVM provides daily news bulletins in both Maltese and English.
