Fugees

The Fugees were an American hip hop group popular in the 1990s. The group's name is derived from the word "refugees", a reference to the Haitian heritage of two of its members. Formed in South Orange, New Jersey, the group consisted of Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill, and Pras Michel.

The Fugees rose to fame with their second album, The Score (1996), which featured a blend of hip hop, soul, reggae, and Caribbean influences. The Score became a multi-platinum success, spawning hit singles such as "Killing Me Softly With His Song," "Ready or Not," and "Fu-Gee-La."

Known for their socially conscious lyrics and distinctive sound, the Fugees addressed themes of poverty, racism, and political injustice in their music. Lauryn Hill's vocal prowess and Wyclef Jean's eclectic production style were key elements of the group's appeal.

Despite their success, the Fugees disbanded in 1997 as its members pursued solo careers. Lauryn Hill achieved critical acclaim with her solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998), while Wyclef Jean also embarked on a successful solo career. Pras Michel's solo work was less commercially successful.

The Fugees have reunited sporadically for performances and have hinted at the possibility of a new album, though no new official studio album has been released since The Score. They remain an influential and important group in the history of hip hop.
