Adam Adami (diplomat)

Adam Adami (born 10 June 1610 in Mühlhausen, Thuringia; died 19 March 1663 in Osnabrück) was a German Catholic theologian, canon lawyer, and diplomat who served as a negotiator for the Catholic delegation during the Peace of Westphalia.

Adami studied philosophy and theology at the University of Mainz. He entered the service of the Archbishop-Elector of Mainz, eventually rising to the position of privy councillor. In this capacity, he was a key member of the Catholic delegation sent to negotiate the end of the Thirty Years' War.

His role in the negotiations leading to the Peace of Westphalia was significant. He actively participated in the drafting and negotiation of the treaties. Notably, he was heavily involved in addressing complex religious and political issues, contributing to the final settlement that sought to establish a more stable and religiously tolerant framework for the Holy Roman Empire.

After the Peace of Westphalia was signed in 1648, Adami continued to serve the Archbishop-Elector of Mainz. He also became a canon at Osnabrück Cathedral. He is remembered for his diplomatic skills and contributions to the resolution of one of the most devastating conflicts in European history. He left behind several writings, including historical and legal works related to the Peace of Westphalia.
