HAL HT-2

The HAL HT-2 is an Indian two-seat primary trainer aircraft designed and manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). It was the first aircraft to be completely designed and built in India. Development began in 1948, and the prototype first flew on August 13, 1951.

The HT-2 is a low-wing monoplane with a fixed tailwheel undercarriage. It is powered by a 155 hp Cirrus Major III four-cylinder, air-cooled, inverted inline engine driving a two-bladed propeller. The cockpit accommodates an instructor and student side-by-side.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) used the HT-2 extensively for primary flying training from the 1950s until it was gradually replaced by more modern aircraft. It was also used by various flying clubs and civilian training organizations within India. The aircraft played a significant role in training a generation of Indian pilots. While no longer in active service with the IAF, several examples are preserved in museums and private collections.
